The Horizontal

By Gigi Engle TW/CW: Explicit sexual scenes described Fantasy and role play are such a unique and marvelous part of being in this crazy world. Too often we’re thrown down by society, flushed with a “moral model” of sexuality. You are broken. If you want anything outside of missionary-style, penetrative intercourse in a heterosexual relationship, you are a sick deviant!!!! Obviously, that’s not true. Wanna hear a cute fantasy I have? Sometimes when I’m getting down and dirty with my favorite vibe (Fin, obvs), I like to imagine that I’m being pounded by a hot blonde man while a group of my ex’s are locked in cages, forced to watch. By Colleen Godin Think back to before your sex toy collection and list of bedroom trysts rounded out to about the same number. Imagine that cringe-worthy moment when your pre-teen self was sat down for the infamous “talk.” Are you still getting shivers just thinking about mom or dad uttering anatomical textbook terms like penis and vagina? Or maybe you're like me, and the topic of sex was so incredibly awkward and seemingly inappropriate that your parents left sex-ed up to a clique of the neighborhood 10-year-olds – or worse, the United States' scarily inaccurate, abstinence-only sex education program. STIs are still treated with tons of shame in our culture despite the fact that many of them are completely curable and almost all of them are treatable. STIs are also incredibly common. 50% of sexually active people will have had at least one STI by age 25. What this means is that if you’re a person who has sex, it’s pretty likely that you...

As conversations regarding inclusion and diversity continue to escalate, there is one group that seems to be habitually left out of the conversation: those living with a disability. Few films, television shows or brand campaigns today showcase members of the disabled community. Moreover, sex for those living with a disability remains totally tabooed. As young actress Coco de Bruycker says, “No one really links disability to beauty, sexual attraction or eroticism.” In an effort to shed light on the sex lives of the disabled, we spoke to a group of female-identifying individuals about their personal experiences and what they wish society would recognize. This is part two in a two part series. As told to Sara Radin.   Shivani Persad  ...
